Renaissance hit
Fortuna Desperata was the most popular Italian song of the 15th century, indeed of the entire Renaissance. It was performed frequently, was arranged for both one and two lutes, for keyboard instruments and for viols and served as inspiration for six masses and at least thirty-eight other derivative settings from the 15th and 16th centuries. The recorder ensemble Consort Mirabile has collected and recorded versions from different centuries up to contemporary compositions with varying recorder ensembles.
