There is very little chamber music by the great Romantic and piano composer Frédéric Chopin. It is striking that the instrumentation of these few pieces always contains the violoncello alongside the piano. The youthful, carefree Trio in G minor, op. 8 and Introduction et Polonaise in C major, op. 3 were dedicated to his Berlin friend Prince Antoni Radziwiłł, who played cello and also composed himself. The Cello Sonata in G minor, op. 65 for the Paris cellist Auguste Franchomme was the result of an incomparably more arduous artistic process. It was the composer's last published work during his lifetime.
