Galant Night Fever

The WIG Society (TWS), born in 2020 in Brussels, has grown in a short time into one of the most exciting ensembles in the field of European Early Music. As an emerging ensemble within the EEEmerging+ program, TWS has developed an original approach to chamber music from the galant and classical period. Their playing emphasizes the lush, extravagant and witty elements of a repertoire primarily intended to entertain an aristocratic society in decline. They present rococo ballrooms and salons as contemporary dance floors, Haydn as the Beyoncé of the 1770s. Their sound is rich and nuanced in depth thanks to the use of both the harpsichord and the double bass, instead of the traditional cello. In addition to works by famous composers, TWS offers a number of world premiere recordings of neglected composers from the Mannheim School and beyond.
