The Swedish soprano Malin Byström, praised as one of the most outstanding singers of the moment, presents a fascinating journey through her celebrated German repertoire. Known for her excellent vocal technique, Byström brings arias and scenes to life that have captivated audiences on stage and at concerts, accompanied by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Thomas Sondergard. The album contains excerpts from two 19th-century German operas that are among her favorites: Ludwig van Beethoven's "Fidelio" and Carl Maria von Weber's "Der Freischütz". Erich Wolfgang Korngold's "Die Tote Stadt" will also be presented, a lavishly orchestrated work that, despite its relative obscurity today, was one of the greatest hits of the 1920s. Central, however, is Richard Strauss, a composer whose genius for the female voice is unequaled. Byström's voice, described by critics as "radiant", "sparkling" and "silvery", is enchanting in the splendor of "Die ägyptische Helena", the timeless lyricism of "Capriccio" and the dramatic intensity of the final scene of "Salome".
