Hallelujah Junction
Lukas Geniusas & Anna Geniushene
Anna Geniushene and Lukas Geniusas have both built brilliant careers as soloists: Anna won the silver medal at the 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and regularly records for the Fuga Libera label, while Lukas' two Rachmaninov recordings, a solo concerto (ALPHA997) and songs with Asmik Grigorian (ALPHA796), have both won major awards. Anna and Lukas form both in life and in art a highly virtuosic and well-rehearsed duo. The varied programme is a tribute to American music with works by Gershwin, Stravinsky, Copland and McPhee, a series of musical melting pots in which classical music, jazz, Mexican music and Balinese rhythms converge. The spectacular and rebellious Fourth Ballad from Frederic Rzewski's North American Ballads (1978-79) is also included. This musical odyssey concludes with the powerful fresco of John Adams' magnificent Hallelujah Junction (1996).
