Heirloom

Nonesuch Records releases Heirloom, the third album by composer/singer/songwriter Gabriel Kahane. The album features a concert of the same name for piano and chamber orchestra, which Gabriel Kahane wrote for his father, conductor and pianist Jeffrey Kahane. The work was commissioned by Linda and (the late) Stuart Nelson, with support from the Kansas City Symphony, the Oregon Symphony, the Aspen Music Festival, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Brooklyn-based orchestra collective The Knights, who are also heard on the album. In Gabriel Kahane's words: "Heirloom is an acoustic family album that explores a series of inheritances across three movements." The album also features "Where Are the Arms", the title track from Kahane's second LP, heard here in a new orchestral arrangement by Gabriel Kahane (vocals, guitar, electronics) and the Knights.
