Heitor Villa-Lobos

Heitor Villa-Lobos was one of the least productive composers of guitar music at the beginning of the 20th century. He published only 24 pieces during his lifetime, including Chôro No. 1, Suite Populaire Brésilienne, Cinq Préludes and Douze Études.

Giulia Ballaré's new complete recording is based on the new editions compiled by Frédéric Zigante, in which all available manuscript sources for each piece were consulted. Giulia Ballaré has in particular recorded the manuscript version of the Douze Études from 1928, a work that Villa-Lobos revised several times before it was officially published in the 1950s.
