The composer Roland Coryn (b. 1938) received many international awards, among them the Tenuto Prize (1973), the Jef Van Hoof Prize (1974), the Koopal Prize (1986) and, in 1999, the Visser-Neerlandia Prize for his entire oeuvre. Initially, he mainly wrote instrumental music; compositions for voice and choir appeared only sporadically. In the middle of the 90s a fundamental change took place, and after that he created an extensive series of choral works. He was mainly influenced by Scandinavian examples, where the composers were and still are looking for new tone colors for this medium. Meanwhile, his opus list has grown with a series of a cappella music based on English, Dutch, and Italian texts. This CD offers a selection of English poems set to music.
