Leokadiya Kashperova was the piano teacher of Igor Stravinsky, studied herself under Anton Rubinstein and yet her compositions have remained in the shadow of the great male masters to this day. A fate that many women of that time shared with her. Although her oeuvre is far from as extensive as that of her composing colleagues, these few works nevertheless testify to an incredible talent, mature skill and a deeply romantic, Russian tonality that is so characteristic of that period.
On this album, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin under the direction of Anna Skryleva performs two works by Leokadiya Kashperova, namely her Concerto for piano and orchestra in A minor and her Symphony in B minor. Skryleva is a Russian-born German pianist, composer and conductor. She is General Music Director of the Theater Magdeburg.
