"La Blancheur des Cygnes" is a poetic and thought-provoking musical project that celebrates female energy, beauty and strength through the timeless art of French chanson. The liner notes by historian Els Kloek situate the album as a continuation of a conversation initiated by Simone de Beauvoir - about the development of women from "other" to active creators of their own forms of expression. Via the striking voice of Charlotte Haesen and the subtle strings of the Café des Chansons quartet, the album traverses nearly a century of chanson - from the cheerful optimism of Charles Trenet to modern interpretations by artists such as Zaho de Sagazan and Solann.
