La Resurrezione

Händel composed his oratorio "La Resurrezione" in 1707 with a libretto that formed a dramatic basis for his new work: the lamentation over the death of Christ in contrast with the fierce exchange of words between the angel and Lucifer. It inspired the young Händel to compose music with luxuriant sonority and expressive drama. In this historically informed performance, conductor Attilio Cremonesi has examined the first performance of the work in Rome in 1708 under the microscope. Attilio Cremonesi studied piano, organ, harpsichord and conducting in Piacenza and Basel and is nowadays one of the most renowned specialists for rarely performed classical and baroque compositions. His numerous award-winning recordings testify to his remarkable success. The performance recorded here took place on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Händel Festival Orchestra Halle. In recent years, the orchestra has performed at the Stuttgart Music Festival, the Leipzig Bach Festival, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and the Semperoper Dresden, at the Händel festivals in Göttingen and Halle, where it is involved in the annual production of a Händel opera, and throughout Europe and South Korea.
