The continuing success of L'Orazio by Pietro Auletta, which was wrongly attributed in the past to composers such as Pergolesi, meant that the opera was performed and adapted so frequently over the centuries that the original structure from 1737 has now been lost. This is the first revival of the opera in modern times. The style of L'Orazio reflects the end of the Baroque, in a period when refined galant and pre-classical echoes gained ground. The comic story about romantic entanglements and rivalry takes place in a scenario in which the music lessons of Maestro Lamberto are interspersed with dubious theatrical assignments and carnival masks.
