Giulio Caccini played a decisive role in the development of the solo madrigal. He not only accompanied himself while singing, but also founded the Concerto Caccini with his wife and children, an ensemble that would even leave its mark on the French court. This double album contains some of Caccini's most beautiful works and also pieces by his two daughters Francesca and Settimia. It also provides Scherzi Musicali with the perfect platform to bring together some thirty instruments and present the instrumental combinations that were used for the continuo group that developed around 1600.
