Mallorca Preludes
Egle Andrejevaite
Reflections Op. 28: Mallorca Preludes is the debut album of classical concert pianist Eglė Andrejevaitė. The Valldemossa Charterhouse was the perfect refuge for an artist like Chopin, who musically embodied the romantic spirit and could draw inspiration there, allowing his turbulent creativity free rein. These intense emotions caused one of the most creative and passionate periods in the musical output of the artist. Therefore, the Chopin Festival of Valldemossa in 2016 commissioned 24 prestigious contemporary Spanish composers to create responses to the 24 Preludes of Chopin, with each composer assigned one of Chopin's preludes as a reference. The musical genius of the Polish artist and the genius loci of the island of Mallorca served as invaluable and unique sources of inspiration for a new generation of composers. The strength of this recording project lies in conveying the essence of these "sublime" and intense inspirations to a contemporary context. For the first time, the Préludes Op. 28 of the great Polish composer are released together with 12 corresponding works by selected contemporary Spanish composers on a single album. The aim was to enable a close comparison between historical inspiration and modern creativity, presented to an interested and curious audience that wants to explore innovative and stimulating musical paths.
