precious: Fascination in gold and silver: they were glittering status symbols for the Renaissance popes and the Baroque princes. Now Lea Suter and Juan González Martínez, as the duo GlossArte, bring these treasures to life for the ears of today. The unmistakably fine sound of the silver trombone, refined with accompaniment of harpsichord or organ, takes us on a journey around the Mediterranean and through the first half of the 17th century, and carries us from the music of bygone times to the music of bygone times.
filigree: The lightness of the instrument is not least due to the surprisingly virtuosic passages, such as in Rognoni's diminutions on di Lasso's famous hit Susanna d ́Orlando, one of the oldest works ever specially written for the trombone. But Rognoni also knew how to make skillful use of lyrical qualities, for example in his arrangement of Palestrina's Pulchra est anima mea.
splendid: Palestrina's severity meets pure emotion: at the beginning of the 17th century, the stile moderno increasingly replaced the polyphony of the stile antico, with affections and expressivity now dominating the music. The expressive diversity that Juan González Martínez conjures up on his trombone finds a imaginative and charismatic counterpart in Lea Suter on harpsichord and organ.
opulent: from Venice to Seville, from Naples to Toledo - music that was played in the south at the end of the Renaissance. The Duo GlossArte follows the virtuosos of that era and brings one of the most interesting periods in music history fascinatingly to life.
