Small but Wonderful
The Ospedaletto was founded in 1528 and was the youngest and smallest of the four famous Venetian orphanages, which were characterized by excellent musical performances. Nicola Porpora worked there from 1743 to 1747, where he met the very talented singer Angiola Moro, known as "Anzoletta", for whom he created particularly demanding solo parts. The mezzo-soprano Josè Maria Lo Monaco has taken on these roles of Anzoletta and presents here two virtuoso cantatas and a Salve Regina, accompanied by Stile Galante under the direction of Stefano Aresi.
