Jean-Efflam Bövouzets highly praised cycle of Mozart's piano concertos reaches its climax with this twelfth installment. The program offers an appropriately festive atmosphere: the overtures to Idomeneo and La finta semplice frame the rondos in A major and D major for piano and orchestra and the concerto for three pianos, and concludes with the double concerto for piano. Bövouzet remarks: 'When one approaches the completion of a series of recordings that has extended over a long period, the feeling of satisfaction at reaching the goal always mingles with an immediate sense of nostalgia for the recording sessions, beautiful moments in the search for a truth that always remains out of reach.' After nine years we have come to the end of this complete recording project with the dedicated members of Manchester Camerata and my friend Gábor Takács-Nagy. Gábor's plan to combine them with opera overtures certainly appealed to me, but the task of performing this enormous corpus of concertos in its entirety seemed gigantic to me! And then I quickly realized that a rare opportunity had presented itself that I should not have missed: this intense musical camaraderie with Gábor and the pleasure of making music with him, the excellence of the members of Manchester Camerata and their tireless energy and flexibility in accepting our continuous musical 'experiments', and finally the wonderful opportunity to have by my side for once in my life a born, inspiring Mozart expert, my wife, Andrea Nemecz.
