Muses

Camerata Salzburg begins a collaboration with Channel Classics and presents the first recording titled Muses conducted by Giovanni Guzzo. The album contains three neoclassical masterworks for chamber orchestra by Igor Stravinsky. The Concerto in Es major "Dumbarton Oaks" is a short concerto in the style of the Brandenburg Concertos. "Apollon musagète" is a tribute to Apollo and the muses of pantomime, poetry and dance with beautiful, harmonically pure and melodically perfect music. The Concerto in D makes use of all conceivable string sounds and techniques, creating a combination of pure melodic and rhythmic drive and beautiful cantabile passages. In these three works Camerata Salzburg delves deeply into the sound, a quest made possible by the individual dedication of each musician to the ensemble, uniting the muses of chamber music, concerto and orchestra.
