Music for Solo Violin and Viola, Volume Three

David Matthews and Peter Sheppard Skærved have been collaborating for years on a series of works for violin and viola, with composer Matthews presenting Sheppard Skærved with enormous technical challenges, while the violist surprises Matthews in turn by finding a way to overcome the difficulties. Behind all the fireworks, this collaboration results in one of the most extensive and musically rewarding bodies of works for violin and viola ever written by a living composer. Many of Matthews' pieces reflect his experiences with nature or are tributes to friends. The works on this third album in the series - naturally interspersed with premiere recordings - also follow a journey from darkness to light.
