in 1598 Christoph Harant von Polschitz und Weseritz (1564-1621), a Czech nobleman, undertook a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, which he documented in a poignant travel account and published as a book in 1608. This joint recording project of Cappella Mariana, which specializes in Renaissance polyphony, and the group Constantinople, dedicated to the musical tradition of Islam, traces this journey and creates a fascinating mosaic of different sounds that Harant encountered on his adventurous voyage.
