Musikalische Ikonen

The 300th anniversary of the first part of Bach's "Wohltemperierte Klavier" was for Tatiana Kozlova, an internationally acclaimed pianist from Sint-Petersburg, an occasion to examine the work closely. Her research is not only based on the findings of Albert Schweitzer, but also on the in-depth analyses of Russian Bach scholars Boleslaw Jaworsky and Vera Nosina. On this basis, she develops an understanding of the work that differs from all previous interpretations. Johann Sebastian Bach was a deeply religious man. It is therefore not surprising that "The Wohltemperierte Klavier" is also based on a broad foundation of biblical themes. Tatiana Kozlova summarizes the preludes and fugues selected for this CD in the microcycles "Creation" and "Passion" (the latter is a musical triptych) and interprets them as "musical icons". The final piece on the recording is based on Prelude No. 10 in E minor from the "Wohltemperierte Klavier" (BWV 855). Two centuries later, Alexander Siloti arranged this prelude and transposed it to B minor. His arrangement forms the conclusion of the CD as a retrospective from the beginning of the 20th century on Bach and his musical icons.
