Nanosonatas

The Nanosonatas by Frederic Rzewski (1938-2021), composed between 2006 and 2010, are a cycle of 56 short piano pieces. These sonatas, created following his extensive work The Road, focus instead on brevity, restraint and the poetry of the unfinished. Each Nanosonata offers a glimpse, but despite their brevity the individual pieces are amazingly diverse: echoes of Scarlatti, Schumann, Shostakovich, folk melodies, protest songs and even boxing movements contribute to a vibrant and surprising sound world.
