Orchestral works vol. 2

Richard+Wagner+was+a+pioneer+of+the+modern+art+of+conducting%2C+and+conducted+many+concerts+as+a+way+of+raising+funds+for+his+operatic+projects+%28and+simply+to+help+pay+off+his+debts%29.+But%2C+although+at+different+times+in+his+career+he+planned+series+of+programmatic+concert+overtures+and+one-movement+symphonies%2C+he+actually+wrote+remarkably+little+concert+music.+This+disc+contains+the+two+most+substantial+concert+works+of+his+maturity%2C+the+Faust+Overture+and+the+Siegfried+Idyll+%26ndash%3B+the+latter%2C+however%2C+written+not+for+public+performance+but+for+a+private+family+occasion+%28and+musically+related+to+the+music-drama+Siegfried%29.+These+works+are+complemented+by+two+of+Wagner%26rsquo%3Bs+early+operatic+overtures%2C+and+by+two+excerpts+from+his+later+music-dramas%3A+so-called+%26ldquo%3Bbleeding+chunks%26rdquo%3B+of+the+kind+which+he+included+only+reluctantly+in+his+concert+programmes%2C+but+which+for+many+years+were+a+staple+part+of+the+orchestral+repertoire.+%28From+the+CD+linernote+by+Anthony+Burton+%26copy%3B+2010%29+%3Cbr+%2F%3E
