Grand Opera
The opera Paria, which premiered in 1869, is an exception in Moniuszko's opera oeuvre, because the plot takes place not in Poland but in India. Grand, effective choral and ballet scenes, rewarding solo parts and successful orchestration make the work one of his most inspired scores. The composer was reportedly very disappointed by the cool reception from the public during the premiere. Fabio Biondi and Europa Galante defend the work here in the Italian version and present it at its best.
