After an album for Alpha devoted to her American roots (Alpha1071), pianist Claire Huangci now turns her attention to female composers: "The reality these women had to face is almost unimaginable for modern women in this profession." Clara Wieck (who adopted the name Schumann after her marriage to Robert in 1840) was the mother of eight children, the family's breadwinner and constantly on tour. Fanny Hensel composed mostly privately and often published under the name of her brother.
