Rococo

If there is one piece that has had a decisive influence on every musician's life, then for Edgar Moreau it is certainly the "Rococo Variations" by Peter Tsjaikovski. As a finalist at the Tsjaikovski Competition in Moscow in 2011, his interpretation catapulted him to the forefront of the young generation of cellists. High time, then, to finally release this enchanting cycle by the Mozart-loving composer on an album. With the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and conductor Michael Sanderling, Edgar Moreau has realized the project with dream partners by his side. Speaking of dream partners: one of them is pianist David Kadouch, with whom Edgar Moreau has an intensive chamber music collaboration. The French magazine "Télérama" praised their playing as "balanced, passionate and dedicated" - qualities that can also be heard on the new album. The chamber music focus here is on the work of Frédéric Chopin, whose cello sonata, with its romantic passion, goes beyond the album title "Rococo". The befriended artists offer an extra Chopin treat with their own arrangement of the Nocturne in C minor as part of a series of charming duo arrangements of world-famous pieces, including Dvořák's "Humoresque" and the second waltz from Dmitri Sjostakovitsj' "Jazz Suite No. 2". Another highlight from Slavic music: the "Vocalise" from Sergei Rachmaninov's "14 Romances" op. 34, which Edgar Moreau has re-recorded for the new album, accompanied by the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra.
