Roma Eterna
Simone Vallerotonda
The goal of this musical journey - an expedition that goes back from the present to the Renaissance - is to reconstruct the overarching lines that encompass five centuries of music and to unite a "Roman school" that is renowned for its contrapuntal rigor, melodic flair and popular roots. The label "Romano", which many musicians from earlier times proudly carried after their names, is a clear sign that you belong to a school, a certain style. The setting for this excursion into the past is Rome, which in the jubilee year 2025 is the destination of millions of pilgrims from all over the world, each bringing their own history and culture. And the various stops on the journey present the music of the eternal city, a music that - whether sacred or secular or whatever work it may be - is capable of moving, delighting and nourishing the soul of every human being, both today and in the past. After exploring the personality of Giovanni Zamboni (L'ultimo romano, 2016) and the subtleties of the French repertoire (Méditation, 2022), Simone Vallerotonda tackles contemporary and early music on this, his third solo album for Arcana, broadening the horizons of the lute with a confidence and sense of innovation that fascinates and surprises.
