Wilhelm Taubert was a composer and teacher in Berlin at a time when the city began to rival Vienna and Paris as a European musical metropolis. Although the piano had also reached its peak in size and sonority during that period, Taubert's graceful, conservative style was perfectly suited to this instrument. His sonatas combine elements of Beethoven with those of Carl Maria von Weber and are characterized by slow movements reminiscent of the rich operatic lyricism of Gioachino Rossini or Luigi Cherubini. Canadian pianist Lucas Wong is active as a soloist, chamber musician, teacher and accompanist and has already recorded works by Claude Debussy, Emmanuel Chabrier, François Couperin and Jean-Philippe Rameau.
