Sacred Music in Thuringen

In Großfahner, approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Erfurt, numerous music manuscripts from the years between 1681 and 1727 were discovered in 1968 during repairs to the church roof. The sacred works by Fr. Troll and Johann Theodor Roemhildt, which were recorded here for the first time, stand alongside the anonymous Concerto a flauto concertante, which has been preserved in a copy by Pisendel, and the organ chorales by Johann Gottfried Walther and Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow, Händel's teacher. The soloists, choir and orchestra of I Contrappuntisti perform a richly orchestrated liturgical cycle from Christmas to Easter.
