This recording highlights a rich but often overlooked chapter in the musical life of Central Germany during the first half of the eighteenth century. Alongside the celebrated figure of Johann Sebastian Bach, Thuringia and the surrounding regions produced a wealth of composers – some famous in their own time, others later consigned to obscurity – whose works testify to the extraordinary vitality and diversity of that period.
