The violin concerto is one of the most popular genres in classical music and music-loving audiences have always had the works of Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky or even their Baroque role models in their ears. But what about violin concertos by female composers? Viktoria Elisabeth Kaunzner, violin soloist and composer, has compiled an exciting selection of contemporary works by female composers for violin and orchestra with this recording. During her stay in Seoul, she experienced a ballet production of "Giselle" in which a selection of traditional East Asian instruments with silk strings and rosewood were added to the classical-symphonic sound body. She wanted to explore this 'melange of sound possibilities' again in Europe and 'bring it to life in my own ensemble with virtuosos selected by me'. She wanted to encourage composers to write new works for violin and orchestra. The possibilities with UKOREVV - Universal Korean Organic Ensemble - Viktoria & Virtuosi are enormous: from the purely classical string sound, combinations with wind, keyboard, plucked or percussion instruments to East Asian instruments participating, the audience can participate in a lively way in the expansion of the violin repertoire and hear musically important moments such as world premieres alongside standard repertoire.
