Organ playing was a tradition in the family of Giacomo Puccini. His great-grandfather was already responsible for church music in the cathedral of Lucca. Before he went to the Milan Conservatory at the age of 22, the later enormously successful opera composer played organ in his hometown and in neighboring parishes. His total of 57 compositions for organ date from this youthful period. The organist Paolo Bottini has now recorded the complete works on two organs in the North Italian province.
