Santtu conducts Shostakovich: Moscow Cheryomushki and Symphony No. 1 is the seventh album of Philharmonia Records. These performances, under the direction of Santtu-Matias Rouvali, were recorded live in the Royal Festival Hall of the Southbank Centre, where the orchestra is based. The Philharmonia Orchestra has a long tradition of recording music by Shostakovich, and on this latest release, the chief conductor brings his own energy, precision and flair to two contrasting masterworks: the sharp-witted exuberance of Moscow Cheryomushki and the youthful brilliance of the First Symphony.
