With Scenes of a Folk Life Agathe Ensemble explores the intersection between folk traditions from the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway and classical music. With works by Julius Röntgen, Amanda Maier and Edvard Grieg, the album presents new arrangements for string ensemble, in which dances, songs and the shared musical spirit of these three countries take centre stage.
The arrangements were created by the musicians themselves, for different string configurations, from duo to octet. The aim was to bring out the folk elements in the music and in this way breathe new life into the music.
This album is being released in a special way. In addition to the music, an illustrated and designed booklet by artist Roland Toth will be released.
