The second album by conductor Robert Trevino with orchestral works by Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936), recorded together with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, contains Respighi's powerful orchestral masterpiece, the "Sinfonia Drammatica". Respighi's "Sinfonia Drammatica" is a large-scale symphony reminiscent of Strauss with a duration of more than 60 minutes. Various critics have pointed out similarities with César Franck's Symphonie in D mineur, particularly regarding the cyclic structure, while echoes of Richard Strauss and Rimsky-Korsakov can be heard throughout the piece, not only in the orchestral writing but also in the contours of some melodic lines. And although Wagner is generally not considered one of Respighi's major sources of inspiration, the influence of the German composer is perceptible.
