Sinfonia tragica

With Havergal Brian's one-act opera Agamemnon and Symphonies nos. 6 and 12, Martyn Brabbins and his colleagues from English National Opera pay tribute to one of the great outsiders of British music. All three works date from the composer's immensely productive late period and showcase his powerful, individual voice at its most concentrated. Despite the extravagant orchestration, all the pieces presented here are masterworks of conciseness, making this recording an important addition to the Havergal Brian discography.
