Reginald Smith Brindle had a remarkable academic career with numerous scientific publications, but as a composer his music was particularly characterized by Italy and his studies with Ildebrando Pizzetti and Luigi Dallapiccola. Works such as "Vita Senese" (Life in Siena) and the "Sonatina Fiorentina" express the cultural and architectural splendor of these great Italian cities. The later guitar sonatas expand into increasingly profound emotions and moods as Smith Brindle explores the full range of the guitar with breathtaking effect. Guitarist Duilio Meucci has combined the development of a versatile solo repertoire with an exploration of chamber music and improvisation throughout his career. This release is the second in a series, of which the first was described by the American Record Guide as "a fine selection of music by one of the most important guitar composers of the twentieth century, dramatically performed by an accomplished artist who is completely dedicated to his work".
