Very little is known about violist and composer Aldebrando Subissati; what is known is that from 1645-1654 he worked as kapelmeister for Polish king Jan Kazimierz in Warschau. Only a few of his works apparently survived the ravages of time. Two years before his death, Subissati compiled 20 of his sonatas in a manuscript, which today form an important mosaic in the Italian baroque violin repertoire. In this, Subissati proves himself an absolute master of his instrument, which he demonstrates with great effect.
