Symphonie Nr.9

With this album, American conductor Joseph Swensen presents an interpretation of Beethoven's famous Symphony No. 9. He describes his thoughts about this work as follows: "Beethoven's last symphony and his greatest work is a hymn to the human condition. It is not about the superhuman, romantic hero as embodied by the composer himself, but about the completely ordinary human being, who is musically represented by the choir. Beethoven described his famous melody in the finale as a melody that anyone can sing. Therefore, the choir in this work is nothing supernatural, heavenly, perfect or flawless. The choir stands for a HIGHER ideal. A sober ideal. The people! In my opinion, the music that Beethoven wrote for this poem makes the symphony orchestra, the choir and the soloists function as Schiller's megaphone to the world. With every word and every note, he urges us to come together in freedom through the most beautiful thing that we all cherish and share. Joy."
