Symphonies Nos. 1 & 2

This new release closes the London Symphony Orchestra’s revelatory Scriabin cycle, featuring the Symphonies Nos 1 & 2. Scriabin’s first symphony was written at the turn of the twentieth century. The piece consists of six movements. The last movement, which features a chorus and two soloists, is performed here by the London Symphony Chorus and soloists Ekaterina Sergeeva and Alexander Timchenko. The second symphony, which premiered two years after the first, resembles stylistic attributes of Strauss, Tchaikovsky and Wagner. “These were fine, controlled performances, correctly free in style but never rambling or diffuse, and wonderfully well-played by a full-strength LSO.
