One of Beethoven's most celebrated works, the Eroica symphony is a large-scale composition that marked the beginning of the composer's creative middle-period. Written mainly in 1803–1804, the work is grounded in the "classical" symphony tradition, whilst exploring the boundaries of form, length, and harmony. Accordingly, it is a landmark work in the transition between the Classical period and the Romantic period.
