The Kremlin by Night

The works of Nikolaj Miaskovskij, one of the most important composers of the 20th century, are still largely undiscovered. The Oural Youth Symphony Orchestra and Alexander Rudin continue their project to breathe new life into the composer's unknown masterpieces: his early symphonic poem "Alastor" embodies the longing of a solitary romantic hero for an unattainable ideal; the Seventh Symphony is the reflection of a mature artist on humanity and the world; the cantata "The Kremlin at Night", which he composed late in his career, expresses Miaskovskij's love for his homeland and its rich history. This is the first studio recording of the cantata.

"Miaskovskij's works are close to my heart", says Alexander Rudin, "his music is noble, somber, philosophical and somewhat mysterious; much of it is still unknown. Following in Tschaikowskij's footsteps, Miaskovskij also inherited Moussorgski's tragic disposition and premonition of catastrophe. His inherent awareness that life was restless, somewhat dangerous and unpredictable was not only connected to his time, but also to his perception of the world."
