The Orpheus of Amsterdam

Magnificent If there is one name in the music history of the Netherlands that has been etched into collective memory, it is undoubtedly that of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck: the composer of an impressive vocal and instrumental oeuvre of exceptionally high quality, who was celebrated as the "Orpheus of Amsterdam". The Royal Wind Music Recorder Consort, an ensemble of renaissance recorders in all registers, from soprano recorder to subcontrabass recorder, performs selected vocal and organ works by Sweelinck in a beautifully cohesive sound.
