Walter Arlen (1920-2023), born in Wien as Walter Aptowitzer, had to flee the Nazis to the US, where in 1945 he won a study visit with Roy Harris with submitted songs and from that moment lived with him as a student and amanuensis. In 2020, a Netflix documentary refocused attention on the composer, two of whose vocal compositions are worth discovering.
