This new album of the Ekaterinburg Philharmonic Choir presents Alfred Schnittke's Three Sacred Hymns and his Concerto for Choir, a setting of poems by Grigor Narekatsi (Saint Gregory of Narek). Andrei Petrenko, artistic director of the ensemble, says: "The concerto is a unique choral painting that combines musical layers of great depth. The piece helps its listeners and performers to transcend their earthly existence and explore the sublime spheres that were revealed by Narekatsi and Schnittke. It is an embodiment of spirituality and possesses an infinite variety of meanings that can only be understood through the sacred text."
