Arabella Steinbacher, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Luxembourg and conductor Gustavo Gimeno present violin concertos by Beethoven and Lentz on their new cd. Beethoven's Violin Concerto is perhaps the most iconic contribution to its genre, and for Steinbacher it is the "holiest" and most sublime work in the repertoire, which continually reveals new perspectives. The piece is combined with the violin concerto by Georges Lentz "... to beam in distant heavens ...", which was written for Steinbacher and was inspired by her virtuosity. Lentz' concerto is also inspired by the poetry of William Blake and the idea that a future generation will one day look back on us and the way we are destroying our planet. Swinging between violence and angelic visions of love and hope, it makes high demands on the soloist and offers an illuminating counterpart to Beethoven's equally searching as idealistic work.
