Trio Sonatas

Italian instrumental music experienced a remarkable flourishing from the 17th century, but many of the composers who contributed to this flourishing production remain relatively unknown. One such composer is Pietro Marchitelli, who was born around 1643 and was an excellent violinist in Naples. Approximately 30 sonatas have been preserved in a couple of collections. The seven lively and melodious sonatas on this album follow the precedent of Corelli and are performed by Labirinto Armonico, an ensemble that has collaborated with some of the finest performers of early music.
