If we talk about the most famous German Baroque musician, we immediately think of Johann Sebastian Bach. During his lifetime, however, Georg Philipp Telemann was held in much higher regard than Bach.
Initially there was little solo repertoire for the transverse flute, which was developed in France at the end of the 17th century.
The prolific Telemann, who composed for almost every instrument and genre of his time, proves himself to be an absolute master also in the Twelve Fantasias for transverse flute. He manages to create a polyphonic sound in the listener's mind with just this single instrument.
