Violin Concerto & Works for Violin and Piano by Clara and Robert Schumann

Violist Midori, the Festival Strings Lucerne conducted by Daniel Dodds and pianist Özgür Aydin present an album with works by Schumann: "Violin Concerto & Works for Violin and Piano by Clara and Robert Schumann", which highlights two closely connected artistic voices. Robert Schumann's Violin Concerto in D minor, composed in 1853 but unpublished for more than eighty years after Clara Schumann and Joseph Joachim cast doubt on its place in his legacy, takes center stage. Long overshadowed by its turbulent history and a problematic premiere in 1937, the concerto has only recently been recognized as a powerful and distinctive late work, today appreciated for its emotional depth and expressive openness. The program also features Robert Schumann's "5 Stücke im Volksstil", op. 102, and "3 Romanzen", op. 94 - lyrical miniatures from his remarkably productive year 1849 - as well as Clara Schumann's "5 Romanzen", op. 22, dedicated to Joachim and now back in the complete repertoire after decades of neglect. Midori, an internationally acclaimed violist with numerous awards and performances on the world's leading stages, brings her expressive depth and technical mastery, complemented by Özgür Aydin's sensitive virtuosity on the piano. The Festival Strings Lucerne and its artistic director Daniel Dodds have been working together successfully since 2012 and have given this orchestra international renown, making it one of the world's leading chamber orchestras, both on the concert stage and in the recording studio. The album showcases the interplay between Clara's tender lyricism and Robert's late works, offering a vivid, emotional and technically brilliant portrait of the Schumanns' late musical world.
