With the album Mozart: The Sonata Project - Salzburg, the Chinese superstar presents four more piano sonatas by the composer, which he recorded in true Mozart style in his birthplace Salzburg. Besides Lang Lang, Yundi is considered the most famous pianist from the Middle Kingdom. Millions of Chinese children have taken up piano playing following his example. At the age of 18, Yundi won first prize at the XIV International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. With this, he was the first Chinese and youngest winner ever of this prestigious competition.
Yundi opens his album Mozart Sonatas with the Sonata K. 331, which became famous through the lively Rondo alla turca, followed by the Sonata K. 310 in A minor, which reflects Mozart's grief after the death of his mother. After the Fantasia for Piano K. 475, Yundi closes his album with the forward-thinking Sonata K. 457, which not least influenced the giant Beethoven.
